Michelle is a corporate transactional and regulatory lawyer on secondment from Herbert Smith Freehills. She focuses on corporate/M&A transactions and advisory matters in the digital economy sector, covering fintech, TMT, and financial regulatory services. Michelle is part of Herbert Smith Freehills’ Digital Law Group.
Michelle is a transactional and regulatory lawyer based in Jakarta, with international experience both in private practice and in-house. She has advised and acted for clients on matters relating to the digital economy sector, covering fintech, TMT (including e-commerce), and financial regulatory services.
Her clients range from established players, including banks, insurance companies, and telecommunication providers, to new market entrants, such as e-money issuers, payment gateway companies, and digital platforms. She advises clients on investment structuring, licensing, roll-out of new business models, and joint ventures.
Michelle is a member of our Digital Law Group, a global team of lawyers working on the firm’s and our clients’ digital transformation efforts.
Michelle graduated from the National University of Singapore. Prior to joining Herbert Smith Freehills and HBT, she worked in the Singapore office of another international firm, representing clients in cross-border and multi-jurisdictional disputes and advising them on data protection as well as other corporate and regulatory issues. She also worked as in-house legal counsel at the Singapore and Jakarta offices of an international investment bank, advising the business teams on bilateral and syndicated lending, data privacy and IT procurement, outsourcing, and corporate banking product roll-outs across APAC. Michelle is fluent in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
