Experience

Michelle’s practice spans both transactional and advisory work in the financial services and technology sectors. She is recognised by Chambers and Partners as a Band 1 Fintech Practitioner and an Up and Coming Corporate/M&A Lawyer in Indonesia.

Michelle advises clients in the digital economy sector on investment structuring, licensing, and roll-out of new business models. She represents clients in M&A, fundraising, joint ventures and other corporate transactions, as well as commercial and business collaboration arrangements.

Her clients range from established players including banks, insurance companies, private capital insititutions, and telecommunication providers, to new market entrants such as e-money and other payment companies, digital platforms, and cryptocurrency exchanges.

Background

Michelle holds an LLB from the National University of Singapore. She also holds an MSc in Law and Finance from Oxford University, graduating at the top of her class. Michelle is bilingual (English and Bahasa Indonesia) and has worked in Singapore and Indonesia, with private practice and in-house experience in both countries, representing banks and corporate clients in cross-border and multi-jurisdictional commercial disputes. She also worked at the Singapore and Jakarta offices of an international investment bank. 

Michelle is a member of Herbert Smith Freehills’ Emerging Technology Group. She is also the Gender Equity Matters Co-chair for Southeast Asia, and the Pro Bono lead at Hiswara Bunjamin & Tandjung.
